"Nearly half of cancers diagnosed in the UK each year - over 130,000 in total - are caused by avoidable life choices including smoking, drinking and eating the wrong things, a review reveals."

"David Smith you couldn't be more wrong. Cancer is NOT natural. Many civilisations around the world had no cancer at all until western man turned up carrying 'goodies'. The 'healthy' people you speak of (who get cancer) may go to the gym and stay slim but I would bet my life that they eat bread and other processed garbage that is as far from 'natural' food as you can get."I'm guessing this person doesn't have any qualifications in Biology, or even basic scientific curiosity.

"My father died 12 months ago of aggressive bowel cancer. He was 77. He did not smoke, or drink, was an ex-SAS member i.e. reasonably fit and active. He didn't make the "lifestyle choices" that this article talks about, and yet he died of cancer.Everyone in the country needs to do a course on probability and causality, especially if they are going to be an editor. It's sad that this person's father died, but this is about risk factors, not saying "if you do this you won't get cancer".
But hey, why let facts like people die of cancer no matter what they do get in the way of having a dig at the public for making choices..."
